The Nicetown-Tioga Wellness Center has been designed to promote community engagement in support of social inclusion and physical and psychological well-being. The Center is designed with a main “Interior/Exterior Path” that links all of the services and activities and provides numerous social zones for community members to gather. The Path’s free flowing angles are inspired by the natural forms and lines found in the sedimentary rock and pathways of the neighboring Fairmount Park and Wissahickon Valley. Canopies with dappled light, seating alcoves and framed walkways provide areas of refuge both inside and outside. Natural materials of wood, concrete and metal enhance the sensory experience. The Center strives to be a place of inclusion, empowerment and peace for the neighboring community.

Why is creating change important to you?
Creating change is the opportunity to generate different perspectives by using ingenuity and imagination to solve problems. The act of creating change in partnership with others by taking into account their views allows one’s mind to be open to new ideas and to build upon an empathic approach in solving design challenges. - Atheer Baeshen |
