Every generation is presented with challenges specific to its time and place. Past eras have seen political revolutions, rapid developments in technology, harrowing economic upheavals, and dramatic theaters of social reformation. But what a truly terrifying and exciting circumstance we find when all these and more happen in combination and conflict. The past two years especially have highlighted both the serious concerns of isolation and the vital imperative of connection. More so than this - we see an ardent and inevitable movement for social change.
This generation has known the singular constant of change, has born witness to "once in a lifetime" events on the regular, and has seemly embraced their role as actor's on the world's stage. They are connected more than ever, crossing invisible barriers within local communities and engaging with global networks of peers, mentors, and potential clients. CABE students today are redefining the role of the designer - as supporters of the initiatives that communities are already undertaking. By lending their skills and resources to the project, students are agents of change while still in their formative educational years, able to learn from and work with their user groups in a collaborative manner. As this practice continues, we may hope the CABE graduate retains their citizen-first approach in their professional practice, serving their community and leading the wave of social change. |
