Ruby City Art Centerfrom Design 8 Architecture Studio with Prof. James McKenna
This project was a contemporary art museum that was heavily influenced by the sculptures within it. The form took on a sculptural concept, with the wave-break forms also being aligned to capture the best sunlight to display the work inside.
The architectural form was designed to create several filtered lighting conditions throughout the day in the main gallery space. Sloped roofs emphasize its upward lift where the building then splits in order to capture several natural lighting conditions and filter them throughout the gallery spaces. |
"Its about the process, the learning, the mistakes you make and how you respond, the things the work, the ones that do not, and more." |
I love seeing the process that not just myself, but my classmates take throughout the duration of a project. I am extremely passionate about exploring the big concepts and forms, but just as passionate about the little details and technical stuff. I love seeing the project at completion, but I also love looking back through my sketchbook to see how the whole process came together. For me that is what it is all about. Its about the process, the learning, the mistakes you make and how you respond, the things the work, the ones that do not, and more. I also am passionate about designing projects that have a deeper meaning for myself or others. For example, the Cabin project currently in my Design 7 studio hits close to home due to my love for the outdoors. I grew up going to cabins for hunting, fishing, and just to get away.
