The mission of T2 Research Tower is to inspire, prepare and grow the next-generation of the advanced fiber and fabric industry through transdisciplinary innovation and collaboration in order to develop and employ sustainable fabrics of the future while breaking down the walls between textiles, design, and engineering to solve real world problems.
The goal was to design a skyscraper for the year 2050 so I decided to do research on transparent PV panels which influenced the façade of the tower. The facade is a fish scale bio-inspired form where the "scales" are made of translucent PV panels that not only help shade the building and generate energy for the structure, but also allow people within the building to still be able to take in the views of the city. Currently, transparent solar cells have reached an electricity conversion efficiency of 9.8%, and that number is expected to continually rise as we approach 2050 and has the potential to lead to net-zero skyscrapers. |

Why is creating change important to you?
The world is constantly evolving and adapting to new challenges that arise, change is so important because in order to adapt and grow change is integral, without change and innovation we would not be able to move forward. I think it is important to look forward to an equitable and sustainable future and to always have the mindset that things can be better then what they are right now. -Matthew Moser |
